Antigua & Barbuda Restaurant & Dining Reviews
Turtle Restaurant at Long Bay Hotel 02/17/2003
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
For the value, the Turtle Restaurant prepares some of the best food I have ever eaten in the Caribbean. We ate there nearly every night, as we were staying at the Long Bay Hotel. Nice combination of lighter island fare, like cold canteloupe soup, and heavier, more traditional fare. The daily fish option was always fresh and never disappointing. And since my partner and I are from the southern United States, the chef even tried his hand at Southern fried chicken one night, but with a West Indian twist, to surprise us. It was fun, but nothing like the heavy, greasy fried food you get in the States--light and crispy with a tangy lime reduction sauce. The desserts tended toward simplicity most nights--always good, often inspired by what I call comfort food, like a tropical variation of a fruit cobbler, served with ice cream. (But since I'm a dessert fanatic, I occasionally wished for something with a little more flair.) All in all, the Turtle Restaurant offers very good food at a very good value, and there's also a convivial bar to retire to after the meal for some conversation and one last cocktail before heading home.
