Occidental/Allegro Grand Aruba 10/02/2003

This was our second trip to Aruba and the Occidental/Allegro. We were there in Sept 2001 (during 9/11) on our honeymoon and we loved it, so we went back.What a mistake! We were there July 12-19. The food had gone downhill 100% since the Occidental took over the management. Even the main entrees in the specialty Italian Restaurant were horrible. Our bed was a nightmare. It had a HUGE dip in the middle (I'd like to call it a hole) that we got "sucked" into every night. We tried flipping the mattress ourselves, but the other side was just as bad. We asked for another room, but they were overbooked and actually moved people next door the the Hyatt and we didn't want to have to do that b/c they make you come back to the Occidental for the AI package (food, drinks, etc), which can be a big pain in the rear. The pool bartender was slow and gave dirty looks if he thought you finished your drinks too fast. The rest of the staff was ok. I know some people say "the impossible to please", but I really am not. All I want is a comfortble bed, descent food (not excellent), and people to be nice back to me. I always say please and thank you and I am fairly easy going.Overall we LOVE Aruba and plan on returning someday in the not so distant future, but we will not stay at the Occidental.
