Cortsland Hotel 03/03/2005
Reviewers Rating: Great
We recently stayed at the Cortsland Hotel -- one of the very few places on the island which offers affordable accommodations along with the amenities we always look for in Caribbean island lodging: a location within safe walking distance of the main town (in this case, St. John's) as well as a supermarket (around the corner at Epicurian in Woods Centre Mall), a swimming pool or beach (a spacious pool here), and preferably a private patio (a nice one on the second floor). A bonus was the hotel's delicious and reasonably priced food we enjoyed throughout our stay. The hotel is set amid a well-maintained garden atmosphere sufficently away from the noise of one of the main roads in town. Also, the Cortsland staff, from the manager down to the maid and grounds-keeper, were genuinely friendly and helpful. In fact, our impression of Antiguans was extremely positive. The only negative comment I can think of regarding the hotel is that some of the room lamps could use replacing --then again, it's not advertised to be a true luxury hotel. But it's certainly good enough for our tastes, and we strongly recommend it for the budget traveler looking for value in a tropical spot.
