Good
Spent a week at the Beach Towers. I would give this resort a 3.5 star rating based on my thoughts below.Location:
This resort is convieniently located in the town near shops, movie theatre, restaurants etc. However, it is also very close to the airport and you can see and hear the rumble of the airplanes go by.
Room:
The room is clean and has adequate space but the decor is not newly or nicely appointed but just mediocre. I had a one bedroom ocenview suite with a direct view of the sea. There is a separate bedroom, 1 bath with two connecting doors (to the hallway and to the bedroom), a kitchenette with stove top, sink, two little fridges, and kitchen basics. A living room/dining room combo with a pullout couch. Two tvs (bedroom and living room). The daily maid service is slow (sometimes at late as 3 -4pm) and again, mediocre. This is NOT a 5 star resort (no turn down service, no flowers on your bed, no towels in the shape of doves for sure!!!) And even putting that aside, i'd say its still just mediocre.
Beach
The ultimate bummer. The man made beach is a little circular piece of the Sea enclosed by sand and stones. Behind it is the pool area which is very nice with a pool bar/restaurant. The private island is a joke if you have traveled throughout the Caribbean at all. First you have to take a boat to get there (only 5 mintues) but its even closer to the airport and its barely larger than the man made beach at the Beach Towers. I was there for @15 minutes then left. The website makes it look like a long beach stretch but its NOT its very short (it might take you 2 mintues to walk it edge to edge)
Restaurant
I only ate at the pool bar and it was very good. Drinks were very good too.
General Thoughts: We stayed at this resort because we were able to stay dirt cheap via travel connections but would not have otherwise chosen it. I would have been pissed if I had paid listed price for it. If you can find it for a good price and you don't mind the lack of direct beach access then fine. Otherwise, I'd recommend another resort. I have traveled to many 5* resorts in the Caribbean (Le Meridien L'habitation -St. Martin, Jalousie Hilton - St. Lucia, Melia PLaya Conchal - Costa Rica, as well as in Jamaica, the Virgin Islands, Tortola, Barbados, 2 Hyatts in Puerto Rico, Bahamas . . . I wouldn't pay top dollar for this resort.
I did visit the Marriott Ocean Club down the road for the day and visted their rooms. Very nice rooms and very nice beach.
Also, we rented a jeep so we drove to different beaches everyday (Baby Beach etc) so that was very nice. The island was fun the people nice.
