Barbados Hotel, Resort & Villa Reviews
King's Beach 07/29/2003
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
We stayed at the King's Beach for 10 days in April 2003 and couldn't have been more delighted. Our requirements are not necessarily the same as everyone's but we were looking for an unpretentious, quiet, small hotel on the West Coast - which I know from experience is the best and only place to stay in Barbados. We did not want lots of bars, entertainment or hundreds of rooms. True to the brochure and previous reviews, King's Beach turned out to be wonderful - a fantastic position, our ground floor room was yards from the beach> The pool and bar were surrounded by frangipani trees and once again metres from the white sand beach. The bar area was adjacent to the pool area and although this area was not large it suited us fine because we could watch our 3 year old daughter. The food was fair at lunchtime (good, if you like fried food) and good at breakfast and in the evening. I have had better but not in a hotel in this price range and we had no complaints at all. The staff were charming. Nightly entertainment (a band of some sort) was low key and finished around 10 or 11 ish. We snorkeled daily on the reefs just off the beach and swam with turtles from the hotel boat about 5 minutes away from the hotel beach. The fact that there were 4 of us in our boat and 200 in one of the tourist boats nearby summed up our enjoyment of this holiday. If you are after a quiet rest this is the place for you - if you want nightlife, noise and bustle it is not. It is not an old person's hotel though, we were one of several families with (nice) young children who all played together and got to know each other well. They would all go crab hunting on the beach together in the evenings. We hired an air-conditioned(vital) car which was useful to explore the wonderful interior of the island, but you can walk quite easily to the very untouristy town nearby. I have stayed in Barbados twice previously and although I loved the Tamarind Cove, I would rather go twice or three times a year to King's Beach for the same money! We got a fantastic all-inclusive deal with Virgin - and no, I don't work for them...we will be going back!
