Cancun & Cozumel Hotel, Resort & Villa Reviews
Club Maeva Tulum (formerly Robinson Tulum) 02/01/2004
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
Having been to other all-inclusive resorts in Cuba this was our first in Mexico and it was spectacular. Club Maeva Tulum is a gorgeous resort. It is situated on a beautiful wide beach in the Mayan Riviera. The rooms are smaller than we were used to, but quite nice. There are 2 double beds and a mini fridge (stocked daily with beer, soda, and bottled water) in the room as well as a TV and telephone. The air conditioning works nicely as well as the ceiling fan. There is a walk-in shower which was great.... just let the water run for about 5 minutes and the hot water will come. You cannot see the ocean from the room that we were in
(section B) but then again the ocean might not be possible to see because of the tall palm trees around the resort. The room was kept very clean and the fresh towels provided every day. You will NOT require an electrical converter as it is 120V. The pool was great and the kids seemed to enjoy the kids pool. The gardens offer beautiful flowers and are very well maintained. There's a stream that surrounds every section
of the hotel that has fish in it... amazing. We spent most of our days on the beach with the warm breeze, crystal clear blue-green water, and soft sand. The beach was nothing short of spectacular! The weather was very warm - high 20 to 30 degrees Celsius, with at times a much
appreciated refreshing breeze blowing off the ocean. At times we had to hide from the sun under palm shade umbrellas. It's breathtaking …heavenly - plenty of photo opportunities. Don't forget your sunscreen! The water sports were always available, just a short walk from the beach. There is Aqua aerobics and volleyball, dance lessons and water polo and many other activities everyday. We really enjoyed the "Champagne Explosion" in the pool! All these activities and nightly shows are run by the entertainment team (a.k.a. Animation team). These
people seemed to work hard not only as the entertainers but also in other jobs at the hotel. The shows at nighttime were great, very interesting, and had quite a lot of effort put into them. There's a disco, it's located on the beach in "La Palapa" which during the day is a bar and buffet, and at night it's the a la carte (only open 3 times weekly) and then the disco. Everyone has the right to go to the a la
carte restaurants. To book your a la carte (open Monday, Wednesday, Friday) you have to get up early (7 am) the day before you want to go and put your name and room number on a piece of paper located just outside the buffet restaurant. The a la carte only has a 35 person limit..... so book early if you want to experience it. The food at the one buffet was GREAT!!!!! Every night there was a theme to the food i.e.. Mexican night and Seafood night. A lot of variety. Everything was very tasty. There was always something for even the pickiest of eaters. The buffet was busy (some line ups) but there was always plenty for everyone. Tons of cold salads, mashed potatoes, French fries, rice, veggies, seafood, fish, freshly grilled meat (pork, turkey, chicken), soup, tortillas and enchiladas, and cheeses and cold cuts. Dessert always included plenty of fruit, cakes, and puddings. We were very impressed with the variety, quantity, and quality of food available. The Beach Grill (La Palapa) is super for outdoor dining. The food was very good although limited compared to the buffet. The atmosphere is beautiful with the beach just steps away and the birds singing on the trees that surround the Beach Grill. There are some vendors that go on the beach but they don't come up to you unless you call them over. Don't buy any silver from them as it is usually fake. We never had a chance to go to the gym or the tennis courts, but they looked great. We found the lobby
area comfortable. There are a bunch of cats there, but they're very friendly. A ping pong table is located in the lobby area. There is also access to
the Internet for a fee. The main bar is in the lobby. There we enjoyed many espressos and scotch on the rocks. There is beer on draft (Corona) at mostly every restaurant and bar so help yourself!!! Tipping isn't required, but the good and friendly service makes you want to give something. We went on tour to Chitchen Itza. It was great. The bus ride was quite long (3 hours) but well worth it. On the way to the pyramids of Chitchen Itza, we stopped at a cenote (sink hole) it is very interesting to see. A buffet lunch is provided (drinks not included). There is a stop to buy souvenirs..... just a suggestion: Barter! Mexicans will usually lower
the price of any given item... just barter. Chitchen Itza is an amazing place. It was quite an experience climbing to the top of "El Castillo"
and looking at the panoramic view. The steps are very steep but there is a rope railing to help climb up or down. The Ball Field is also an interesting experience... we had a very knowledgeable guide and we learned a lot. Going to Chitchen Itza was worth every penny and well worth the long bus ride. We had a wonderful time. The Mayan Riviera is a wonderful place for a holiday, very friendly staff, great beach, lots of things to see and do, and plenty and tasty food. This resort is amazing. The gardens are immaculate and very beautiful. We loved the atmosphere. Everything made our trip fun, very enjoyable and memorable. Everything about our trip was great. We loved it! We would recommend this hotel without hesitation. Please don't hesitate to e-mail me lady_brighteyes@yahoo.com or my fianc頭isterpaco@yahoo.com if you have
any questions regarding this resort.
