Riu Tropica Bay-Negril 11/15/01

This property just opened 3 weeks ago in March...I just got back and was quite pleased at the level of completion. Riu is a European chain---so it has more that feel than Jamaican. Accommodates familes, couples and singles. The grounds were very nice, GREAT BEACH! Better than nearby properties as it is on the end and next door is just unihabited beach for miles--great for walking. Swim up bar, good service at the pool bar..nightly show, disco opens at 1030p--great music in my opinion. Rooms are large, nicely furnished..2 doubles pushed together--lots of room. All have Balconies/patios, about 80 percent have some kind of ocean view. I strongly urge going for the Ocean FRONT rooms---they are right on. Mini bar is very well stocked w/Red stripe beer, soda (TING/pepsi)) and mixers for the included bottles of rum and vodka. Restraunts-ala carte was good. The dinner buffet restaurant was very good for this kind of fare. linen table cloths--candles, 2 seatings 630pm and 830pm..and quite good buffet variety and quality. Breakfast was very good--omlettes to order, the best fried potatoes i think ive ever had--outdoor seating option, looking out on water and pool-great way to start the day. All in all this property holds up as a very good all inclusive at much lower prices than the some pricier alternatives in the area.. (Review originally submitted on April 10, 2001)
