Sunset Beach Resort & Spa 10/29/02
Reviewers Rating: Great
My husband and I visited at Sunset Beach from 10/23-10/28. I felt pretty secure with the choice of resorts from reading other reviews on this site. Everything went without a hitch at the Airport and transportation to the resort was indeed an adventure. We arrived prior to the 3pm checkin, and were directed to our rooms. After drinking our first rum punch (brought to us while we were checking in), we headed for 1007A in the Sunset Tower. Our room was exactly like the one pictured on the website. Being a clean freak, I looked at everything carefully, from the balcony to the bathroom. Everything was clean and orderly. We went back down and had lunch at the buffet and sat at the beach bar for several drinks. We met with our tour rep from Air Jamaica and received information on all available tours. We booked the Dunns River Falls tour and horseback riding with Chukka Blue. We also made reserations at both the Italian and Chinese restaurants. We then went to the Spa and made reservations for his and her massages. After a much needed nap, we headed back down for dinner at the buffet and wandered over to the mainstage for the entertainment. We then called it a night. We had our Dunns River Falls excursion on the next day. We had breakfast at the buffet and waited for the shuttle. The shuttle was timely and so began the trek to Dunns River. We made several stops along the way to pick up others from other hotels and one for refreshments. The trip over took approximately 2 1/2 hours. The climb up the falls took an hour or less, then the drive back, about 2 hours. We did get to see many cities along the way, and the excursion was worth it for the scenerary alone. We napped and then showered for dinner at the Chinese restaurant which was pretty good. The entertainment that night was a great reggae houseband. We then danced the night away at the disco. The next day was spent recovering, and then snorkeling at the beach. We showered and ate dinner at the Italian restaurant and disco here we are again. Keep in mind that relaxation is the name of the game at this resort. Bartenders pour the liquor freely, and everyone just sort of sits or lays around the entire day. Saturday was spent at the spa for the his and her massages. We then napped on the beach and played pool in the Pub. Our final day was spent snorkeling, horseback riding and just talking to people from all over at the swim up bar and pub. All in all the atmosphere at this resort is great, altogether its best asset. If there is any point that could be improved, it would be the food, however, the resort has patrons from around the world, so it would be difficult to please everyone's palate. This had to be one of the most relaxing and enjoyable times ever! If you are looking for a nice, clean resort, with a great atmosphere and fantastic spa (the massages were to die for) this is the place for you, definetly worth the money spent.
