Fisherman's Reef Restaurant

Postby KarenS » Mon May 15, 2006 8:10 am

From Cayman Net News: "With a panoramic view of North Sound Bay, diners are discovering Chef Ottmar’s exciting new restaurant - Fisherman’s Reef Bar and Grill, which recently opened at Morgan’s Harbour in West Bay.

It is perhaps the best-kept secret in Grand Cayman, but locals and tourists that are in the know are coming night after night.

The recipe is deceptively simple: five-star food in a romantic atmosphere at casual dining prices according to Chef Ottmar.

'I wanted to stay away from a five-star setting and focus on the food, which is a continental with a Caribbean flair,' said Chef Ottmar.

'I have found that people want great food and good wine, but they don’t want to wear a jacket and tie and they don’t want to pay $150 a plate. They want to be comfortable and they want to enjoy themselves with their friends, family and loved ones. The food is the same food I have been doing for years, but it is just in a more casual atmosphere.'

The main dining room is set under a gazebo under a bora bora roof which is set right on the water. A lamp provides soft lighting at each table as local musicians play Caribbean music.

Customers can watch the fishing boats go out to the reef and come back with a fresh catch and much of what is caught is brought straight to the kitchen doorstep of Fisherman’s Reef.

A popular dish created by Chef Ottmar is the Chicken Trinidad, which has tender breast of chicken stuffed with diced apples, grapes, almonds, coconut and served with an orange butter sauce.

Another favourite is Caribbean Red Snapper Caprice, which is pan fried in the French style and topped with banana and mango slices, chutney and banana liqueur.

Fisherman’s Reef also offers a selection of 125 wines and a full service bar."
