From biz.yahoo.com: "With the resolution of Puerto Rico's fiscal crisis and today's reopening of all government agencies, the Puerto Rico Tourism Company (PRTC) has launched several new initiatives designed to reinforce the convenience and safety of the Puerto Rico leisure and business travel experience. Puerto Rico, the closest US tropical island, offers warm hospitality, authentic Latin culture and a variety of activities and attractions for the entire family.
Despite Puerto Rico's tourism being unaffected by the government situation, PRTC has put into effect an aggressive marketing and promotion plan in the United States, Canada, Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe and locally on the island to showcase Puerto Rico's tourism offering and to counteract the negative perception the fiscal crisis has generated for Puerto Rico the past two weeks. PRTC is pleased to report that during the fiscal crisis, tourism services operated normally, occupancy levels remained strong and the number of visitors to the San Juan Metropolitan area was 8% higher compared to the same period last year.

Throughout the past two weeks, PRTC monitored the situation day-to-day and took the necessary measures to ensure that tourists felt safe on the island, comfortable keeping their travel plans and were welcomed with open arms upon arrival. Tourist updates were available on PRTC's website, and PRTC communicated with its industry partners to provide accurate information that they in turn could use to communicate to their clients."
