New Hotel, New Jobs

Postby KarenS » Mon Jun 05, 2006 9:26 am

From the Associated Press: "SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) - A U.S. hotel chain plans to build an upscale resort project on Puerto Rico's north coast that will generate hundreds of jobs, the island's governor said Wednesday.

The St. Regis Hotel and Resort Bahia Beach Puerto Rico is scheduled to open by the end of 2008 in Rio Grande, about 20 miles (32 kilometers) from San Juan, Gov. Anibal Acevedo Vila said before leaving for New York, where he was to attend the formal announcement of the project on Thursday.

Acevedo said the company would invest about $US500 million (euro389 million) in the five-star resort project, which would employ some 700 workers and several thousand more during the construction.

Officials with St. Regis, part of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc., did not immediately return phone calls seeking comment."
