July/August Events in St. Lucia

Postby KarenS » Sun Jul 09, 2006 7:50 am

A few events culled from various sources:

July 17 & 18:
Carnival Celebration-A celebration of the arts. Music, dancing, food, and of course colorful gaiety in the streets. For info contact Cultural Development Foundation at (758) 452-1859.

July thru August-Kids' Safari Summer. A bi-weekly program in July and August for kids aged 5-14. This is a fun, educational camp that teaches kids about the natural resources, culture and beauty of St. Lucia. For more info call Saint Lucia National Trust at (758) 452-5005

August 1-Emancipation Day Celebration and National Heroes Day: The abolition of slavery in 1838 is celebrated throughout the island.

August 30-Feast of Saint Rose De Lima, pays honors to the beauty of the rose with king, queen and local dignitaries included. The party is bright, colorful and festive.

Anyone know of any other festivities I haven't mentioned?

What's the Rose Festival like? Does it happen in a particular place or all over the island? Something not to be missed? We will be in St. Lucia on this day and I've had a hard time finding exactly what this is.
