CASTRIES, St Lucia: Over the next few days, the St Lucia Tourist Board has organised a celebration of cultures and music from Canada , England, Kenya and New Zealand. This special event is called Rhythms and Culture and will take place at different venues around the island.
These four countries will showcase their indigenous music alongside St Lucian entertainment in a melting pot of rhythms and dance traditions. Maria Fowell, Director of Tourism for St Lucia says the idea is to highlight the diversity of the various cultures represented by the myriad of visitors to the island in a unifying effort, while promoting St Lucia as a premium destination.
March 13 - England night will feature the band Fortune Drive.
March 15 - Kenya night will feature Jabali Afrika.
March 19 - Canada night will be the turn of Emile Michel
March 21 - New Zealand night will showcase Kahurangi Maori Dancers and Carimi from Haiti.
The St Lucian performers will include Barbara Cadet, Ronald Boo Hinkson, Nyabinghi Dancers, Virtex, Off Island, West Coast Band, Helen Folk Dancers and Carl Gustave.
