Renting a car?

Postby mikeg » Tue Apr 25, 2006 10:35 pm

I'll be going to St. Maarten in a few weeks and was curious about car rental. I hear it's the best way to explore the island. Is it safe? Expensive? Does anyone have any advice? Thanks.

The only practical way to really explore the island. Driving around in the daytime is quite safe. Thefts from parked cars are a risk, so you should never leave anything in the car. Best to avoid deserted back roads late at night. Roads are pretty good by Carribean standards, but traffic can be heavy at some times and places. Rentals are not expensive.

What side of the road do they drive on? Are they crazy drivers like in Barbados?
