St. Thomas, USVI – Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas played host to over 24 local, regional and international fashion designers during the First Annual Virgin Islands Fashion Week organized by Henry r. Marsham Jr and Vern Tonge.

The week long activity opened with grand style at the Yacht Haven Grande on Thursday, October 4th, 2007. The public was treated to Caribbean flare with the sweet sounds of steel pan music by the St. Thomas All Star Steel Orchestra. Followed by a performance of national pride by the Heritage Dancers.

Designers were introduced to the public and showcased one of their designs, giving a ‘taste’ as to what to come. Featured speakers included, Miss Monique Sibilly-Hodge, Assistant Director Tourism and Sen. Shawn Michael Malone.

During Saturdays Fashion Market Expo Kebra Emmanuel of Elan Image Consulting out of Maryland was the head cosmetologist for VIFW.

She was present to offer quick make-over and consultations. Other features at this event included a dance by the Kingdom Life Dancers and the St. Thomas Heritage Dancers.

Up and coming Designer, 17-year-old Allorra Tutein of St. Croix was the featured designer of the day. She took pride in modeling her own designs and was excited to be part of VIFW. A student of the St. Croix Central High School, Allorra has been designing for years, her skills have improved and has awarded her prestigious recognition.

The Caribbean Catwalk Runway Show on Sunday, October 7th at the Frenchman’s Reef Marriott Hotel opened with a dance tribute to all the islands of the Caribbean by the Fete Tastique Dance Troupe followed by Sandal Sole of St. Thomas.

The runway featured chic everyday, urban style wear from N. A. T. T. Y Garments of Virginia, Riddim Driven out of the House of Ashanti in collaboration with VP Records and UNI Davis Sportswear of St. Thomas, Sexy swimwear from Feelo je of Anguilla and Kai Designs of St. Maarten to classy, sexy professional wear for men and women from Men Steppin In Design of St. Thomas and St. Aimee Designs of St. Maarten.

African inspired designs found a unique place with Bola’s African Designs out of St. Maarten and Chafa Govha/Mode Afrika out of Africa, who both presented some colorful, creative, ready-to-wear male and female assembles.

TheoChris of Anguilla, Ahmadz of St. Croix and Caribbean Couture of New Jersey presented sexy, chic, contemporary gowns fit for queens and fashionistas.

Other presenters included Mariska’s Designs of Guyana, no stranger to the Virgin Islands Runways, Blak Klay Soyl of Barbados, Spiritwear and Zaa Zii Wear of Bermuda, Nayda of Coki Beach and Haynes Designs of St. Thomas, Agape & Christ Couture of the USA.

Models came from the Caribbean region, Canada, USA and the UK for this ground breaking event. Miss Teiko Dornor of the UK, who also held the title of ‘Face of VI Fashion Week’, was present both as a model and presenter for her TV programme ACCESS which is aired on OBE TV (Original Black Entertainment TV) in London.

Virgin Islands Fashion Week 2007 culminated on Monday, October 8th with a Swimsuit Fashion Show and Calendar Release Party on the world famous Magens Bay Beach which featured the swimsuit collections of Kai Designs, Feelo je and Christ Couture Fashions.

Media coverage included: SHABEAU Magazine, POSH Caribbean Magazine, Caribelle Magazine, Couture Magazine, CORE Magazine, The Source, Daily News among others.

Virgin Islands Fashion Week 2007 was sponsored by the Department of Tourism, Yacht Haven Grande, Concert Works, Elan Image Consulting – Maryland, PriceSmart, Ace Flight Center, CORE Magazine, SHABEAU Magazine, Frenchman’s Reef Marriott Hotel and MegaMix Productions.

“Plans are already on the way for Virgin Islands Fashion week 2008”, according to Vern Tonge, co-producer and Model/Fashion Director, “2008 will be bigger and better! You can count on that!!!”
