New Barbadian Play: Redemption

Postby KarenS » Mon Apr 03, 2006 7:51 am

From the Barbados Advocate: "There needs to be more support for local theatre from the corporate sector. This is one thing that becomes very clear after seeing a rehearsal for the new Barbadian play, Redemption, set to hit the local stage on Tuesday.

Redemption, written by Alvin Boots Cummins, is a new work that questions several social and personal questions about relationships, love, social stratifi-cation and spirituality. However, the play, which features several well-known Barbadian actors and dancers mainly culled from the Israel Lovell Foundation, has received very little support fi-nancially save from the National Cultural Foun- dation (NCF)s Cultural Action Fund (CAF.)

La Chapelle added that it is time that regional theatre broke more barriers than it has presently done, adding, We have to be comfortable with our bodies, our stories and ourselves. We have to be potent enough to be ourselves. On Tuesday April 3, Redemption will debut at the Holders Season stage, before moving to the Frank Collymore Hall from April 20 to 22."
