Barbados Ranks in Top

Postby KarenS » Sat Jun 17, 2006 6:27 am

A report published by American Express Travel shows that St Lucia is the world's top destination for weddings.
Several other Caribbean countries also featured in the top ten list.

The report says St Lucia emerged as the favourite location for weddings beating off competition from other tourism hot spots such as Las Vegas and the Maldives. Barbados placed second, fourth went to Antigua and Jamaica came out seventh, rounding off the Caribbean islands' entry in the top ten.

Couples are now flying to the Caribbean to wed as they search for the perfect romantic getaway to share one of, if not, the most important event of their lives.

St Lucia's tourism minister Phillip J Pierre has welcomed the news that his country is now the premier wedding location. "I am very pleased, and I want to thank the private sector," said Mr Pierre , congratulating hoteliers and workers in the tourism industry for offering a winning package to visitors.

Britons prefer the Caribbean
A key finding of the American express survey was that among the British, the Caribbean is the top destination for couples looking to tie the knot.

However, the Caribbean still has to make up some ground on competing destinations in terms of its honeymoon offerings. Mauritius came out on top as the number one honeymoon location.

Barbados was the highest ranked Caribbean honeymoon location, in third place. Fifth placed Antigua was the only other Caribbean country in the top ten honeymoon locations list.

Hi Karen

Husband and I got married in Barbados in 2005 and it was just perfect with the evening finishing off in The Tides for a wonderful meal.

We didn't employ a wedding co-ordinator as it was pretty easy to do ourselves - even if it does mean joining lengthy queues in Bridgetown to get your Wedding Certificates - like join one queue to get the form you have to fill in, join another queue with the completed form to pay for your Certificates and then re-join the original queue to get your Cerificates!!!

As for flowers, well the local florist didn't have what I liked BUT I love bourganvillea and there is plenty of that around!

I would certainly recommend getting married there but high heels and sand do not mix.
