National Gallery offers Internships

Postby KarenS » Wed Apr 26, 2006 7:18 am

From Cayman Net News: "The National Gallery’s internships introduce young people to arts-related careers and foster future cultural leaders by providing opportunities for real work experience.

The National Gallery provides the opportunity for youngsters and art lovers to work as interns in the following categories: Deutsche Bank’s National Gallery Internship (one recipient for one year duration); summer internships (for up to six students over the summer school holidays); and occasional interns (for students who are taking gap years at school, or young people who are travelling and want to work for a brief period of time at the National Gallery duration several days to a month).

Any young people interested in the visual arts are eligible for the internships, with the exception of the Deutsche Bank Internship, which is exclusively available to Caymanian students.

All interns regardless of which category they are in, gain direct experience in such areas as exhibitions, publications, education, fundraising, public relations, marketing, advertising, programming, event management, and conservation.

Former interns have included, Christina Ross, Jaime Doak, Josephine Shibli, Jonathan Doak, Shari Espeut, Letitia Davis-Eden, Leah Ebanks, Monica Tonissoo and Eldon Parchman, who have incorporated the arts into their lives through career and volunteer opportunities.

Their efforts at the National Gallery are helping to enrich the cultural life of the Cayman Islands.
'While the National Gallery’s entire Management Board (19 members) and our core staff (seven members) are all Caymanian, we are conscious of our responsibility to continue to encourage young Caymanians into careers in art,’ said Director Nancy Barnard.

'We are equally happy with having a cosmopolitan, multi-national infusion into our operations with the volunteer-staff (13 members) who work weekly and bi-weekly shifts, and who are from places as far apart as Estonia, Canada, France, India, South Africa, England and of course, the Cayman Islands.'

For more information about Gallery internship programmes please contact director.ng@candw.ky or 945-8111."
