Bareboat Advice

Postby JWA » Wed Jul 05, 2006 7:14 pm

We are planning a bareboat cruise during feb 2007 for 5-7 days and would appreciate some advice.

We plan on having a captain, do we need a mate for a 63' boat? Our potential charters say a mate is not necessary because we will probably enjoy our evening meal on shore and won't need much help for lunch or breakfast.

The captain also said that he can easily sail the boat alone accept for a bit of assistnce for launching and docking. What do you think?

One more, has anyone sailed the Shiwara? Looks great to us, broker seems very accommodating, any reviews?

Thanks in advance

Don't know Shiwara, but do know a captain can handle a boat even that size without a mate. However a little assistance from passengers occasionaly will make things go better. If you are sailing the BVI there are wonderful restaurants all over so no need for a chef/mate. What broker are you using?
