If you get off at West End, it is a decent cab ride into Road Town. It depends on what you want to do/see. There are some good beaches on the north side of the West End and you will be close to them if you get off there. You may want to see some things in town though, like the Botanical Gardens, etc. We have a page of some things to do here http://www.caribbean-on-line.com/bv/bve.shtml
Then there is the shell "Museum" - more of a folk museum, but pretty cool.

The "Bomba Shack" http://www.virgin-islands-on-line.com/coconut-telegraph/archives/000575.shtml
And Long Bay http://www.virgin-islands-on-line.com/coconut-telegraph/archives/000595.shtml which are all closer to the West End. So unless you really want to see town (which is actually pretty small) staying on that end for the day would probably be fine.
