Dubois Foundation hits milestone 50th container yesterday

Postby Canuks » Sun Aug 17, 2008 3:01 pm

What a great day! Amazing The Dubois Foundations has hit a milestone yesterday with its 50 containers to Cuba filled. For thoes who are unaware of this quiet - yet highly successful group - they load containers of humanitarian items for Cuban hospitals, old age homes and orphanages with the greatest needs.

No idea how we did it but by 1:30 the doors were closed on another successful pack. It was complete shy a couple of sewing machines and a couple of mattress due to be loaded Monday. Such a great feeling to be part of such an amazing organization - even for a day or two - so much work is done weekly by a core group meeting EVERY Wed morning to pack and pre-prep for the day of packing. Thank you John and crew!

Dubois Foundation hits milestone 50th container yesterday

Postby Canuks » Sun Aug 17, 2008 6:33 pm

I was asked for a bit more information about the Dubois Foundation
....... since 2001 those 50 containers (40 foot) all the contents of these containers has been found, packed and placed in a container all from donations and volunteer work. There are hospital beds, chairs, working but old hospital furniture, clothing, shoes, chairs etc..... Truley humbling to see it all come together.

John Dubois and a few core members go down at least once (often more) times a year. No resorts for them as they travel the country-side to see where those of best need are located. Then comes all the paperwork, and political talks to make it all happen. Each container has the same joy but preceeded with lots of painstaking patience.

John told of one old age home that in the caf. they sat on chairs made of blocks of wood supporting re-bar that served as their seats. This container there are 24 chairs (with cutions) and several table marked for this location. Does it all arrive to intended destination. Apparently yes for the most part as they have returned only to see the stuff in use.

Good to see some new and some familiar faces to help at the pack.
Sorry I couldn't be there but work rears its ugly head again. I will be at the next one I hope.
John.
