Construction on Grace Bay Beach?

Travel & news discussion about the Turks & Caicos

Construction on Grace Bay Beach?

Postby AW » Tue Mar 14, 2006 3:49 pm

I have read several articles lately about the new development on all islands. I am concerned about construction on Grace Bay Beach. We are planning a trip in September and have not made a final decision on hotel. We are considering Point Grace, Turks and Caicos CLub and the Palms. Can anyone tell me if any of these hotels are next to or impacted by a construction site? Thanks.

The Palms may have construction, next door at the Alexandra, but they should be just about done by Sept. I am not too sure about the other two

I don't believe there is anything planned yet next to either Point Grace or the Turks & Caicos Club

Construction not a big issue

Sure there is construction in Grace Bay area, it really doesn't impact that much on the good time you'll have visiting Turks & Caicos Islands. We have been going to Club Med for years and really enjoy Grace Bay area. The diving is great, the snorkeling is great, the sailing is great, the sun bathing is great, and everything else you will do on your trip. Go and have a great time, you'll like it.

The largest areas of construction we saw the week of March 12th-18th 2006 was the stretch between the
Villa Renaissance and Ocean Club and Ocean Club West.
Large cranes, cement pouring, and the overall
building creation step construction. The "Seven
Stars" resort being the biggest property.

West of The Sands is another large stretch of development including the expansive Mandalay.
It appears that development projects may not only
be confined to resorts. There appears to be
housing projects as well, but these being located
on the non-ocean fronting side of the streets.

East of the Ocean Club East resort is a partially
complete Tuscany hotel. And to the east of that
there is a new housing development with man made
canals being built called The Leeward.

Some kind of construction is everywhere!
Gas stations, expansion of existing shopping plazas
like the Salt Mill, or new mini-mart buildings.
Everywhere we saw concrete blocks with rebar rods
sticking out. So much so I thought it should be an
image to be added to the T&C license plates.

Except for the glow of security lighting, construction was not a nuisance at the Grace Bay
Club located with just the Ocean Club West between
our building and the Seven Stars construction cranes.
Renovations at the Grace Bay club were being made to
the central building housing the administration,
main lobby, gym, and spa on the bottom floors. An
occasional circular saw or hammer could be heard
from the hotel's outdoor eateries.
